Environmental Damage to Land and Liability Insurance in the Republic of Estonia

“Liability is a way of making people realise that they are also responsible for possible consequences of their acts with regard to nature.” This statement is the core of this article, with the aim of discussing liability insurance as one way of striving for an improved environmental situation in Estonia. Insurance companies are an important part of a functioning market economy, perhaps especially in connection to industrial companies and their investments, where adequate insurance is necessary. This makes it possible for insurance companies to prompt for a certain environmental standard, in order to make insurance coverage possible.
